HOLIDAY/CHRISTMAS, BIRTHDAY, THINKING OF YOU, BLANK

Incarceration is isolating. Greeting cards are important for inmates because they help in maintaining emotional connections with loved ones, combat those feelings of isolation, and contribute to better long-term outcomes upon release. Sending greeting cards to family can be a tangible reminder that the inmate is “still around”, which is especially important during difficult times in incarceration, such as holidays and family members’ birthdays.

Studies show that inmates who maintain close contact with their families tend to perform better upon release, including finding stable employment and housing. Greeting cards contribute to this positive outcome by fostering stronger family connections. Unlike texts or phone calls, greeting cards are physical objects that can be held, displayed, and cherished. This physicality adds to their impact and provides a tangible link to the outside world and loved ones.
